DESTINATION UPDATES: GREEN KEY Eco-Rating Program in Russia: First hotels have got certificates

Recently 5 hotels  (Park Inn Pribaltiyskaya, Radisson Royal, Park Inn Nevskiy, Park Inn Pulkovskaya and Radisson Sonya)  in St. Petersburg from Rezidor Hotel Group have received International Ecological Certificate  “The Green Key”. The Green Key is a worldwide available eco-label awarded to leisure organizations, as hotels, conference- and holiday centers and etc. To obtain The Green Key the company has to fulfill a list of environmental requirements.  Besides environmental demands ( by example to control the production of waste and the use of water, electricity, etc.), the criteria include demands on policy, action plans, education and communication.

All Rezidor Hotels in St. Petersburg use energy-saving lamps, in order to decrease water consumption hotels installed special aerators in the rooms. Cleaning products are used only if they have eco-stamp and eco-certificated. All rooms have cart-readers which automatically switch off the light in the room after guest left the room in order to save electricity and etc. All above is aimed to improve ecological situation in the city.

DESTINATION NEWS: Opening of a New Project The Pompidou Center in the State Hermitage

From 5 October to 14 November, 2010 as a part the year of France in Russia holding a new project The Pompidou Center in the State Hermitage, aimed to show diverse forms of works of the Pompidou Center with the modern art, is introduced in the State Hermitage.


Centre national d'art et de culture Georges Pompidou (National Center of Art and Culture after Georges Pompidou) is a cultural center in Paris, triumphantly opened in 1977 on the initiative of French President Georges Pompidou. The Center includes the Museum of Modern Art, the library, concert and exhibition halls, Institute for Research and Coordination of Acoustics and Music. Exhibitions and other artistic events, arranged and held by the Centerin the 1980-2000-s as a part of cooperation of artists and curators, have made it one of the major world grounds for collecting, demonstration and discussing of actual art.
Tasks of the project The Pompidou Center in the State Hermitage include paying special attention to the form of modern art works demonstration and their discussing that will continue long-term interaction and mutual enrichment of Russian and French culture. Holding of the project in the main state room of the winter Palace will give an opportunity to open multi-level dialogue between the styles and epochs, which is destined to turn into harmonic artistic narration on transformations of the modern art.


The project, aimed to show diverse forms of work of the Pompidou Center with the modern art, consists of two parts - exhibitions and festivals. The designers' pavilions (authors: Heimo Zobernig, Jorge Pardo) are introduced as a part of the festival. Within a week different kinds of artistic activity are held: experimental performances of French and Russian performers, performances of ballet stars, round table discussions, workshops and discussions. Demonstrations of video-works by French artists from the collection of the Pompidou Center, as a range of theater performances are held in the Hermitage Theater. French and Russian artists and representatives of the modern art are involved in participation in the events of the Festival.
Among the participants of performances: Andrei Bartenev, Vladimir Golubev, Rashid Uramdan, Derevo Theater, Compagnie du Zerep. Works of the young artists, such as Yves Belorgey, Farah Atassi, Stephane Calais, Djamel Tata, Cecile Bart, Ida Tursic and Wilfried Mille will be introduced.
The exhibition opens on 13 October, 2010 in the Anteroom of the Winter Palace and it lasts 4 weeks till 14 November, 2010. The exposition will demonstrate 12 masterpieces of French art of the 20th century from the collection of the Pompidou Center - famous works by Marcel Duchamp, Yves Klein, Martial Raysse, Jean Dubuffet, Cesar, Roman Opalka, Robert Filiou, Daniel Buren, Gerard Garouste, Georges Mathieu, Bernard Lavier, whose works are exhibited in St Petersburg for the first time.
5 October the Hermitage Theater held the press-conference, dedicated to the opening of a new project The Pompidou Center in the State Hermitage, participated by: Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage; Edward de Lumley, Director of French Institute in St Petersburg; Dmitry Ozerkov, Head of the Modern Art Section of the State Hermitage; Bernard Blistene - Director of the Festival.
6 October, 2010 the Council Chamber held the Panel Discussion on the topic: This Awful Modern Art in the Universal Museum with Russian and foreign art critics and directors of museums, invited to participation in which.
An illustrated catalogue with the introduction of Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage has been prepared for the exhibition.
The exhibition is prepared with support of French Institute in St Petersburg and Culture France.

DESTINATION UPDATES: New high-speed train between St. Petersburg and Helsinki

A new high-speed train will start plying between St. Petersburg and Helsinki on December 12th. The new express, to be launched under the name ‘Allegro’, will run at a speed of 220 kilometers per hour and cover the distance between St. Petersburg and Helsinki in 3,5 hours. There will be four Allegro trains in either direction per day. The Allegro trains are produced by the French company ‘Alstom’ on orders from Russian Railways.
